Synchrotron radiation microangiography is a powerful tool for assessing adverse changes in pulmonary vessel density associated with primary pulmonary hypertension (PH). Congestive heart failure (CHF) leads to a `secondary' onset of PH, yet it is unknown whether secondary PH is also associated with reduced vessel density. This study utilized synchrotron radiation to assess both pulmonary vessel density and endothelial function in a Dahl rat model of CHF with secondary PH. High salt‐fed Dahl salt‐sensitive (Dahl‐S) and salt‐resistant (Dahl‐R) rats were anesthetized and microangiography was performed to assess the pulmonary vessel density and vascular responses to (i) sodium nitroprusside (5.0 µg kg?1 min?1), (ii) acetylcholine (3.0 µg kg?1 min?1) and (iii) ET‐1A receptor blockade, BQ‐123 (1 mg kg?1). Dahl‐S rats developed CHF and secondary PH as evident by endothelial dysfunction, impaired vasodilatory responses to acetylcholine, enhanced vasodilatory responses to BQ‐123 and extensive pulmonary vascular remodeling. Consequently, the pulmonary vessel density was adversely reduced. Interestingly, the etiology of secondary PH manifests with structural and functional changes that are comparable with that previously reported for primary PH. One important discrepancy, however, is that ET‐1 modulation of pulmonary vessels is most striking in vessels with a diameter range of 100–200 µm in secondary PH, in contrast to a range of 200–300 µm in primary PH. Such discrepancies should be considered in future studies investigating primary and secondary forms of PH.  相似文献

Using very long baseline interferometry we have searched a sample of 300 compact radio sources for examples of multiple imaging produced by gravitational lensing; no multiple images were found with separations in the angular range 1.5--50 milliarcsec. This null result allows us to place a limit on the cosmological abundance of intergalactic supermassive compact objects in the mass range approximately 10(6)M( middle dot in circle) to approximately 10(8)M( middle dot in circle); such objects cannot make up more than approximately 1% of the closure density ( 95% confidence). A uniformly distributed population of supermassive black holes forming soon after the big bang does not, therefore, contribute significantly to the dark matter content of the Universe.  相似文献

A methodology for stereocontrol during the intramolecular coupling between cyclohexadiene--Fe(CO)(3) complexes and pendant alkenes is presented. Introduction of a methoxy group at the C(3) position of the diene moiety controls pre- and postcyclization rearrangements of the diene Fe(CO)(3) unit, allowing the preparation of spirolactams with defined relative stereochemistry and with a cyclohexenone framework, thus making this reaction a potentially valuable tool for the construction of quaternary carbon centers.  相似文献

A convenient one-pot procedure to prepare angularly substituted bicyclic and tricyclic molecules with excellent diastereoselectivity in good yield was developed, by Fe(CO)5 promoted cyclization. Three transformations (complexation, isomerization, and cyclization) were realized in a single operation. X‐ray exposure during crystallographic data collection can result in unintended redox changes in proteins containing functionally important redox centers. In order to directly monitor X‐ray‐derived redox changes in trapped oxidative half‐reaction intermediates of Paracoccus denitrificans methylamine dehydrogenase, a commercially available single‐crystal UV/Vis microspectrophotometer was installed on‐line at the BioCARS beamline 14‐BM‐C at the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne, USA. Monitoring the redox state of the intermediates during X‐ray exposure permitted the creation of a general multi‐crystal data collection strategy to generate true structures of each redox intermediate.  相似文献

A new example of stereospecific cationic cyclization of iron tricarbonyl diene complexes with pendant alkenes and arenes is provided. Protonation of a double bond vicinal to the iron tricarbonyl diene moiety is employed to trigger the cyclization, rather than the previously reported Lewis/protic acid dehydroxylation of diastereomeric alcohols, eliminating one step of separation and avoiding some reactivity problems previously encountered for one of the alcohol diastereoisomers. High-level ab initio electronic structure calculations are used to interpret the fragmentation dynamics of CHBr(2)COCF(3), following excitation with an intense ultrafast laser pulse. The potential energy surfaces of the ground and excited cationic states along the dissociative C-CF(3) bond have been calculated using multireference second order perturbation theory methods. The calculations confirm the existence of a charge transfer resonance during the evolution of a dissociative wave packet on the ground state potential energy surface of the molecular cation and yield a detailed picture of the dissociation dynamics observed in earlier work. Comparisons of the ionic spectrum for two similar molecules support a general picture in which molecules are influenced by dynamic resonances in the cation during dissociation.  相似文献

The radioisotopes phohphorus-32 and arsenic-74 have been used to study the extraction of molybdophosphoric and molybdoarsenic acids from aqueous solution with various organic solvents. A method is described for the gravivmetric determination of phosphorus in the presence of arsenic which makes use of solvent extraction with n-butyl acetate. The results obtained for the determination of phosphorus in various types of iron and steel are described.  相似文献

We introduce the intex density X(R,u), which combines both the intracular and extracular coordinates to yield a simultaneous probability density for the position of the center-of-mass radius (R) and relative separation (u) of electron pairs. One of the principle applications of the intex density is to investigate the origin of the recently observed secondary Coulomb hole. The Hartree-Fock (HF) intex densities for the helium atom and heliumlike ions are symmetric functions that may be used to prove the isomorphism 2I(2R)=E(R), where I(u) is the intracule density and E(R) is the extracule density. This is not true of the densities that we have constructed from explicitly correlated wave functions. The difference between these asymmetric functions and their symmetric HF counterparts produces a topologically rich intex correlation hole. From the intex hole distributions (X(exact)(R,u)-X(HF)(R,u)), we conclude that the probability of observing an electron pair with a very large interelectronic separation increases with the inclusion of correlation only when their center-of-mass radius is close to half of their separation.  相似文献
